Presley Cracks Top 10 in Final Fall Tournament
WINDERMERE, Fla. - LSU junior Andrew Presley fired his third-straight round of 1-over par 73 in Tuesday's finale at the 2012 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational to wrap up the fall season by tying for ninth place on the leaderboard to lead the Tigers in one of the premier tournaments of the collegiate season held this week at Windermere's Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
Presley, who captured his second collegiate championship with a win at the David Toms Intercollegiate in Baton Rouge two weeks ago, ended the fall season with back-to-back top-10 finishes after carding a score of 3-over par 219 in 54 holes at this year's Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.
After opening the final round in 11th place overall, the 13th-ranked Tigers moved up three spots into eighth place in the final team standings with their 54-hole score of 35-over par 899.
The No. 1-ranked California Golden Bears led wire-to-wire as they took home the team championship for the week with a winning score of 4-over 868, including a 1-over 289 in Tuesday's final round. The No. 6-ranked New Mexico Lobos finished two shots back in second place at 6-over par 870, while No. 8-ranked Alabama followed in third at 9-over 873 and No. 2-ranked Texas took fourth at 15-over 879.
Like his team, California's Michael Kim was the wire-to-wire winner of the individual title as he wrapped up the championship with a 1-over 73 in the final round to capture a narrow one-shot win over Alabama's Justin Thomas and New Mexico's James Erkenbeck at 4-under 212.
Presley carded two birdies and three bogeys in his round to claim his first career Top 10 at Isleworth as he improved upon his tie for 16th place in the final individual standings a season ago.
LSU sophomore Curtis Thompson tied for 26th place on the leaderboard after posting a 3-under par 75 for the final round and a 54-hole score of 7-over par 223. Fellow sophomore Stewart Jolly added a 2-over par 74 on Tuesday, while finishing in a tie for 40th place at 11-over 227. Sophomore Myles Lewis tied for 58th place at 16-over 232 and freshman Zach Wright tied for 66th place at 19-over 235.
By finishing in a tie for eighth place this week, LSU saw its run of two-straight runner-up team finishes at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational after scoring second place overall in both 2010 and 2011.
With the 2012 fall season now in the books, the Tigers will break for the winter months before kicking off the 2013 spring season with a trip to Mobile, Ala., to compete at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate hosted by the University of South Alabama at Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Club on Feb. 18-19.
