Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport will play host to the third-annual event after it was held at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge in each of its first two seasons in 2009 and 2010.

Golfstat will provide live scoring this week during the third-annual David Toms Intercollegiate as fans are able to follow up-to-the-minute coverage of the event online at www.golfstat.com.

The David Toms Intercollegiate is named in honor of the most prolific performer in the illustrious history of the LSU men's golf program. A three-time All-American with the Tigers from 1985-89, Toms earned a total of three First-Team All-SEC honors and captured the 1987 SEC Championship to highlight a storied collegiate career. He was also twice named the SEC Player of the Year in 1988 and 1989.

Toms has since enjoyed one of the most successful careers in the history of the PGA Tour, highlighted by 13 PGA Tour victories during his tenure and a win at the 2001 PGA Championship.

The two-time defending champion Tigers are sure to contend for their third-straight team championship at the David Toms Intercollegiate as they are among seven teams in the field ranked among the Top 60 clubs in the country in the latest Golfstat power ranking released Wednesday.

While maintaining the No. 33 position in this week's Golfstat power ranking, the Tigers will be joined by the likes of No. 32 Tulsa, No. 49 Louisiana-Lafayette, No. 51 Mississippi State, No. 53 SMU, No. 57 Oklahoma and No. 58 Ole Miss in the 11-team field. Also making the trip to Southern Trace this week for the event are Kansas State, Lamar, Louisiana Tech and South Alabama to round out the field.

LSU will compete alongside Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulsa during Monday's action as they will tee off at holes Nos. 1-4 on the front nine with the shotgun start slated for 8:30 a.m. CDT.

The Tigers defended their team title at the David Toms Intercollegiate a year ago with a two-stroke defeat of Arkansas in the final team standings. They matched their lowest 54-hole tournament score in more than 25 years with a winning score of 16-under par 848 at the Country Club of Louisiana.

Not only did LSU capture the team championship a year ago, but then junior Austin Gutgsell captured the individual crown with a career-best performance while competing as an individual during the event.

Gutgsell fired a winning score of 10-under par 206 in three rounds at the Country Club of Louisiana while scoring medalist honors by four strokes over a quartet that included former Tigers Ken Looper and John Peterson in a tie for second on the leaderboard at 6-under 210. That performance earned Gutgsell national recognition as the Golfweek National Player of the Week following his victory.

Gutgsell will join LSU's five-man lineup this week along with fellow senior Sang Yi, sophomore Andrew Presley, sophomore Landon Lyons and freshman Curtis Thompson.

Yi has been especially impressive to open the 2011 fall season while averaging 72.3 strokes per round for the team's leading scorer. After opening the season by tying for third place on the leaderboard at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic back on Sept. 11, Yi picked up a top-20 finish last week during the Jack Nicklaus Invitational where he finished in 15th place in the final individual standings.

Four Tigers will also compete as individuals during the David Toms Intercollegiate including sophomores Franco Castro and Smylie Kaufman and freshmen Stewart Jolly and Myles Lewis.

After playing host to the David Toms Intercollegiate this week, the Tigers will wrap up the fall season on Oct. 23-24 when they travel to Isleworth Golf Club in Windermere, Fla., to compete in one of the premier collegiate fields of the regular season as part of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.
