Men's Golf 10th at Fall Finale

WINDERMERE, Fla. – LSU juniors Stewart Jolly and Myles Lewis each broke par with rounds of 2-under 70 and 1-under 71, respectively, to lead the Tigers in Tuesday’s final round at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational as the squad finished in 10th place in the final team standings in their fall finale held this week at Isleworth Golf & Country Club.

The Tigers wrapped up the 10th-annual event with a team score of 8-over par 296 to move up one spot into 10th place in the 15-team field with a 54-hole score of 20-over par 884.

After teeing off in the final round with an 11-shot lead in the team race, Alabama increased their lead to 12 shots by the end of Tuesday’s action to take home the team championship with a winning total of 26-over par 838. Tournament co-host Central Florida followed in second place at 14-under 850, followed by defending champion California in third place at 5-under 859.

Rounding out the top five in the final team standings were Florida State in fourth place at 4-over par 868 and Illinois in fifth place at 5-over par 869.

Jolly finished as the top Tiger for the third time in four fall tournaments after firing his best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a team-best 2-under 70, cracking the Top 20 on the final leaderboard in a tie for 18th place 2-over 218 in 54 holes. Jolly’s carded five birdies and three bogeys on his round to finish among the Top 20 of the leaderboard for the third time this fall.

Jolly opened the 2013 fall season with a third-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga., before sharing the individual crown at the Golfweek Conference Challenge held at Spirit Hollow Golf Club in Burlington, Iowa. The Birmingham, Ala., native wrapped up the fall season with a team-leading 71.83 scoring average after playing his 12th round for the Tigers.

Lewis also fired his lowest round of the week at 1-under 71 on Tuesday afternoon to move himself into a tie for 35th place on the final leaderboard with a final 54-hole score of 5-over par 221 for the week.

After leading the Tigers in each of the first two rounds of the tournament with a 1-under 71 on Sunday and a 2-over 74 on Monday, freshman Eric Ricard ended his first career tournament as a member of LSU’s starting lineup with a 5-over 77 in the final round to tie for 38th place overall at 6-over 222. Junior Curtis Thompson added a 6-over 78 for LSU’s team score in the final round to tie for 43rd place at 8-over 224.

Rounding out LSU’s lineup at the 10th-annual Isleworth Collegiate Invitational was senior Andrew Presley, who tied for 66th place on the leaderboard with a final tournament score of 16-over par 232.

Alabama’s Trey Mullinax wrapped up a four-shot victory for the individual title after firing a 1-under 71 in the final round for a winning 54-hole score of 11-under 205. Florida’s State’s Hank Lebioda followed four strokes back in second place at 7-under 209, with Alabama’s Bobby Wyatt taking third place at 6-under 210, Central Florida’s Kyle Wilshire taking fourth place at 4-under 212 and Central Florida’s Ryan Stovash and California’s Joel Stalter each tying for fifth place at 3-under 213.

The Tigers will now break for the winter before returning to action in February with their appearance at The Prestige at PGA West to be held Feb. 17-19 at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
