WINDERMERE, Fla. - After opening the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational with a 1-over par 73 during Sunday's first round, LSU junior Andrew Presley followed with a 1-over 73 in Monday's second round to lead the 13th-ranked Tigers in the event being held this week at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
With back-to-back 73s, Presley finds himself on the verge of an impressive top-10 finish in one of the top tournaments of the collegiate season as he will tee off in the final round Tuesday in a 12th-place tie overall with his team-leading 36-hole score of 2-over par 146 in two days of action.
Presley, who claimed his second career tournament title in his last start at the David Toms Intercollegiate, is poised claim his second top-10 finish of the 2012 fall campaign.
After wrapping up the first round in fifth place with an opening score of 6-over par 294, the Tigers posted a team total of 19-over par 307 in Monday's second round to fall into 11th place with a two-day team total of 25-over par 601. LSU has earned back-to-back runner-up finishes in the event in 2010 and 2011.
The No. 1-ranked California Golden Bears saw their four-stroke lead entering the day cut to three shots as they posted a 7-over 295 on Monday to finish the day with a 36-hole score of 3-over 579. Illinois posted a second-straight round of 3-over 291 to move into second place at 6-over 582 for the tournament while No. 2-ranked Texas and No. 5-ranked Florida follow in a tie for third place at 7-over 583.
Presley will tee off in the final round seven shots out of the lead in his pursuit of medalist honors. Michael Kim of California is the 36-hole leader with his two-day total of 5-under par 139.
Kim followed his 5-under 67 in the opening round with an even-par 72 in the second round to wrap up the day three shots clear of James Erkenbeck of New Mexico, Tyler McCumber of Florida, and Jordan Spieth of Texas on the leaderboard. Kim held a narrow one-shot lead when he teed off on Monday.
While Presley led the Tigers with a 1-over 73 on the afternoon, sophomore Curtis Thompson recorded his 4-over 76, sophomore Stewart Jolly carded a 6-over 78 and freshman Zach Wright posted an 8-over 80 on the day for LSU's final team score. Thompson is tied for 22nd place at 4-over par 148, while Jolly finished the day tied for 53rd place at 9-over 153 and Wright ended the round in 71st place at 15-over 159.
In addition, sophomore Myles Lewis followed his 2-over 74 in the opening round with a 9-over 81 during the second round to tie for 62nd place at 11-over 155 after 36 holes of competition.
The Tigers are paired with Central Florida and TCU in Tuesday's final round as they finish the fall season with tee times beginning at 7:25 p.m. CT on the back nine. Golfstat will provide live scoring for the round on its official scoring website at www.golfstat.com throughout the day.
