BATON ROUGE - The 13th-ranked LSU men's golf team will compete against the strongest field it will face during the 2012-13 regular season this week as it makes the trip to Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Fla., to wrap up the fall season at the 2012 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.
The first round of the three-day, 54-hole championship will be held Sunday followed by the second round on Monday and the third and final round on Tuesday. The course will play to a par 72 and a lengthy 7,544 yards for the tournament that features an elite 14-team field this week.
The event features an NCAA Championships caliber field with five of the Top 10 and eight of the Top 20 teams in the Golfstat Top 25 that are ready to tee it up Sunday at Isleworth Golf & Country Club.
The Tigers will compete alongside the likes of such clubs as No. 1 California, No. 2 Texas, No. 5 Florida, No. 6 New Mexico, No. 8 Alabama, No. 14 Vanderbilt and No. 15 Arkansas. Also on the cusp of the Top 25 of the Golfstat Top 25 rankings is No. 28 Illinois and No. 30 Indiana as Augusta State, Central Florida, North Florida and Texas Tech round out the field at this year's championship.
The Tigers are paired with California and Central Florida in Sunday's opening round and will tee off from the back nine at 7:25 a.m. CT. Tee times begin at 7 a.m. and 7:25 a.m. during each round.
Live scoring of the event will be provided by Golfstat throughout the week and can be found online at the organization's official tournament website at www.golfstat.com.
The Tigers have enjoyed a strong fall campaign heading into the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational this week as they followed a tie for fourth place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic in their season opener on Sept. 9 by winning back-to-back team crowns at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate on Sept. 25 and David Toms Intercollegiate on Oct. 7. They are now ranked No. 11 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, No. 12 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Top 25 and No. 13 in the Golfstat Top 25.
LSU has been impressive in each of its last two appearances at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational as the team has claimed back-to-back runner-up finishes in the team standings while wrapping up the fall season in 2010 and 2011. That includes a 54-hole team score of 18-over par 882 a season ago.
The defending national champion Texas Longhorns are also the reigning Isleworth Collegiate Invitational champions after taking a 26-shot victory over LSU in 2011 with their score of 8-under 856.
Three Tigers return from the five-man lineup that claimed a second-place finish in the event last season as junior All-SEC standout Andrew Presley leads the way after tying for 16th place individually in 2011. The Fort Worth native is coming off his second collegiate victory when he led the Tigers to victory two weeks ago at the David Toms Intercollegiate at The University Club.
They are the team's top scorers this fall as Jolly leads the way with a 72.2 scoring average and Thompson follows with a 72.4 scoring average three starts. Each has finished among the Top 20 individually in three events this fall with a pair of top-10 finishes. Both Jolly and Thompson tied one another for their medalist honors in leading the Tigers to the team title at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate.
Rounding out LSU's five-man starting lineup for the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational this week are rising sophomore Myles Lewis and freshman Zach Wright. Wright has cracked the lineup in each of the squad's three tournaments this fall, while Lewis has made two starts for the Tigers to open the season.
