BATON ROUGE - As the LSU men's golf team prepares to play host to the fourth-annual David Toms Intercollegiate at the University Club this weekend, the Tigers have claimed their place among the Top 15 teams in the country in the first national polls of the 2012 fall season released this week.

The Tigers are ranked as high as No. 12 nationally in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Top 25 released on Wednesday, while they are also ranked No. 14 in the first Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index put out Monday and No. 16 in the updated Golfstat Top 25 released Wednesday.

The Tigers are off to a fast start this fall after earning a tie for fourth place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic on Sept. 7-9 and earning the victory at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate on Sept. 24-25.

Leading the way in the early going has been the sophomore tandem of Stewart Jolly and Curtis Thompson as each earned his first collegiate victory with the Tigers by sharing medalist honors at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate held two weeks ago at Shoal Creek Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. They had matching career-low tournament scores of 6-under par 210 to take the Shoal Creek title.

Both Jolly and Thompson are ranked among the top individual players in the country with their effort thus far as Jolly is ranked No. 19 by Golfweek and No. 39 by Golfstat and Thompson is ranked No. 26 by Golfweek and No. 53 by Golfstat in their individual player rankings.

The Tigers will play host to the fourth-annual David Toms Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday as they will compete against eight other programs at the University Club in Baton Rouge. They are poised to earn their third team title in four seasons after capturing back-to-back David Toms Intercollegiate titles in 2009 and 2010 before finishing in fourth place in the event a year ago.

After playing host to the David Toms Intercollegiate this weekend, LSU will wrap up its fall season at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational being held Oct. 21-23 in Windermere, Fla.
