Softball Collects No. 12 Preseason Ranking

OKLAHOMA City, Okla. - The LSU softball team came away with a No. 12 national ranking as the ESPN.com/USA Softball released its Top 25 preseason poll on Tuesday. Last week, the Tigers claimed the No. 10 spot in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll.
 
The SEC and Pac-12 conferences led the way with seven selections apiece. In addition to the Tigers, the SEC is represented in the poll by No. 1 Alabama, No. 5 Tennessee, No. 7 Missouri, No. 8 Georgia, No. 15 Florida and No. 17 Texas A&M.
 
Non-conference ranked opponents on LSU's 2013 schedule include No. 6 Oregon, No. 13 Michigan, No. 14 Arizona, No. 18 Louisville, No. 19 UCLA, No. 21 North Carolina, and No. 24 Florida State. The Tigers also will face off with BYU, Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Alabama, Syracuse and Tulsa who are grouped among the receiving votes portion of the poll leading into the 2013 season. 
 
In total, LSU will take the field on 21 occasions versus Top 25 competition which includes 12 contests against six teams that appeared in the 2012 NCAA Super Regional round.
 
LSU is 10 days away from 2013 opening weekend where the Tigers will play host to Hampton, No. 21 North Carolina, Purdue and Tulsa as part of the Tiger Classic from February 8-10.
 
Season tickets can be purchased for $75 at www.LSUtix.net for a marquee home schedule that features 15 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament participants. The Tigers also will welcome defending national champion Alabama along with Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina for three-game SEC series.
