Softball's Tiger Invitational Day 3

BATON ROUGE -- Two games not involving the LSU softball team are scheduled for day 3 of the 2014 Tiger Invitational at Tiger Park. Check back for updates as these are completed.

LSU (6-3), which does not play on Sunday, will play host to Penn State on Monday for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. CT.

Game 8: Penn State 9, George Washington 1

In the first game of the morning, Penn State (4-2) run-ruled George Washington (0-10) in five innings, 9-1. The Nittany Lions leftfielder Macy Jones went 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI, while first baseman Kasie Hatfield drove in three runs after a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Penn State freshman Marlaina Laubach improved to 3-0 after allowing one run on four hits without a walk or strikeout.

Courtney Martin (0-7) took the loss for George Washington after giving up three runs on three hits with six walks in 2/3 of an inning. Madi Myers-Cook scored the lone run in the top of the fifth inning.

Game 9: Northwestern 11, Penn State 1 (5 innings)

In the second and final game of day 3, Northwestern scored 10 runs on eight hits in the first two frames to blow away Penn State, 11-1, in five innings.

Wildcats first baseman Julia Kuhn had four RBI including a two-run homer in the second inning, while starting pitcher Kristen Wood (4-2) ceded only one run on two hits with four strikeouts.

Northwestern (7-2) departs Baton Rouge with a 4-1 tournament record, while Penn State (4-3) split its first day of action at Tiger Park.

The Nittany Lions face LSU for a pair of games Monday at 4 p.m. CT.
