TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 13 LSU softball team heads into the April portion of its schedule and opens a nine-game road swing Wednesday against Florida State. First pitch is on-tap for 4 p.m. CT from JoAnne Graf Field.

Both games of the twinbill will be broadcasted on Country Legends 104.9 FM by the LSU Sports Radio Network and can be accessed by Geaux Zone subscribers at www.LSUsports.net/live.

With its doubleheader sweep of Samford last weekend, LSU (30-7) became the third SEC team to reach the 30-win plateau on the season. The Tigers have won 10 of their last 12 outings since March 10.

“As hard as the season has already been and the tough schedule we’ve already played, I know it only gets harder during the month of April,” head coach Beth Torina said. “We’ve worked really hard to be prepared for the gauntlet we’re about to face. Hopefully, our team is ready for the challenges ahead.

Florida State (28-12) has won all three of its ACC series over Maryland, North Carolina and North Carolina State. Offensively, the Seminoles are being led by Courtney Senas’ .386 batting average, 12 home runs and 45 RBIs. She also has gone 12-for-13 in the stolen base department. Kelly Hensley has garnered a .348 hitting clip to go along with 11 homers and 42 RBIs.

Monica Perry and Lacey Waldrop have combined for 27 of the team’s 28 wins in the pitching circle. The Perry-Waldrop duo also has picked up 291 strikeouts over their 234.1 innings of work.

“Florida State always has a solid program and are well-coached,” Torina said. “They’ve had to deal with a bunch of injuries but are starting to rebound from that. They have a ton of athletic players and two solid pitchers.”

All three members of LSU’s pitching staff picked up wins last week. Rachele Fico, the No. 1 pick of the Akron Racers during the 2013 NPF College Senior Draft, has tallied a 17-5 record with a 1.83 ERA. The senior right-hander has tossed 10 shutouts which included a two-hit shutout of Samford last time out and has racked up 168 strikeouts over 138.0 frames of action.

Ashley Czechner has won all eight of her decisions and hasn’t surrendered a run during three of her last four starts going back to March 13. She equaled a season-high eight strikeouts and fired five innings of three-hit ball in game two of the Samford doubleheader.

Meghan Patterson has tallied a 5-2 mark with a staff-low 1.69 ERA. She collected a win over Southeastern Louisiana during her last start.

Bianka Bell, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, has tallied a .327 batting average. She has cranked a team-leading eight home runs and 30 RBIs. She drove home 10 of the team’s 20 RBIs last week.

A.J. Andrews and Jacee Blades have teamed up for 85 hits from the top of the lineup. The pair has hit safely in 22 of the team’s last 26 games. Andrews is a perfect 12-for-12 in steals.

Allison Falcon and Tammy Wray have chipped in 21 RBIs to tie for second place on the team. Wray has had 12 of her 22 hits go for extra bases.
