BATON ROUGE – LSU’s A.J. Andrews and McNeese State’s Meagan Bond collected Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards Thursday as voted up by the state’s sports information directors.
A sophomore outfielder for the Tigers, Andrews provided hits in all four games of LSU’s 4-0 week. She came up huge in the clutch to spark the Tigers sweep of No. 17 Kentucky. The Florida native returned to the middle of the series after a violent collision in the third inning and collected the game-tying RBI on a bunt single during the ninth inning LSU eventually secured the 4-3 walkoff win. Andrews capped the sweep and with the go-ahead two-run with two outs during the six inning of the series finale.
A senior pitcher for the Cowgirls, Bond posted a 3-0 record and a stout 0.78 ERA for the week highlighted by a pair of complete game victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. She allowed just two runs on 11 hits and turned in 25 strikeouts against one walk over her 18.0 frames of action. The senior right-hander now is now 11-2 for the season, and McNeese State is receiving votes in the NFCA/USA Today Top 25 poll.
It’s the third career weekly award for Bond and first for Andrews from the LSWA.
