BATON ROUGE - LSU's Allison Falcon and Northwestern State's Kylie Roos secured Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards Wednesday as voted up by the state's sports information directors.
A junior infielder for the Tigers, Falcon went 9-for-16 at the plate en route to an impressive .562 batting average and collected five RBIs. She delivered a pair of game-winning hits at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic over the weekend, a two-run double during the sixth inning versus Syracuse followed by a RBI single in the fourth inning against Penn State. The Donaldsonville native also racked up a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs during LSU's 14-6 win over No. 14 Michigan.
A senior pitcher for the Demons, Roos tossed a pair of shutouts versus Alcorn State and Louisiana Tech to improve to 5-0 for the season. The right-hander was touched up for just five hits and notched 17 strikeouts against two walks during the week. The victory over Louisiana Tech enabled NSU to improve to 17-3, the program's best all-time start through 20 games eclipsing the 16-4 mark set in 1990.
It's the second career weekly award for Roos and first for Falcon from the LSWA.
