BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU is No. 6 in the annual Perfect Game baseball recruiting ranking, giving the Tigers their second Top 10 recruiting designation this fall. LSU was No. 10 in the Collegiate Baseball recruiting ranking released in September.

The recruiting rankings apply to players signed during the 2012-13 academic year and take into account only those signees who enroll in college. LSU has appeared in the Top 10 in at least one recruiting survey in six of the past seven years, including No. 1 designations in 2007 and 2010.

LSU’s 19-man recruiting class includes 11 pitchers and eight position players. Perfect Game’s Kendall Rogers cited infielders Danny Zardon and Kramer Robertson and pitcher Jared Poche’ in his assessment of the LSU newcomers.

Danny Zardon impressed observers during the summer circuit,” Rogers writes, “while left-handed pitcher Jared Poche’ and others should provide quality depth from the get-go. Particularly on the mound, the Tigers will need some of these young players to rise to the occasion come the spring.

Kramer Robertson isn’t a big guy at just 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, but has quick actions, good footwork and has improved tremendously from a defensive standpoint over the past year or so. Robertson has good bat speed with an aggressive offensive approach, too.”

The newcomers and returning Tigers completed their fall practice period in November, and the players are engaged in weightlifting and conditioning drills through the remainder of the semester.

Preseason practice begins on January 24, and the 2014 season opens on February 14 when the Tigers play host to New Orleans in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

Florida is No. 1 in the Perfect Game recruiting survey, followed by Miami (Fla.), South Carolina, North Carolina, Ole Miss, LSU, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State.
