Four Tigers Picked on Day 3 of MLB Draft

BATON ROUGE, La. – Four LSU players have been selected Saturday during the third and final day of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.

Junior catcher Ty Ross was chosen  in the 12th round by the San Francisco Giants, senior left-handed pitcher Chris Cotton was selected in the 14th round by the Houston Astros, senior outfielder Raph Rhymes was chosen in the 15th round by the Detroit Tigers, and junior Christian Ibarra was the 32nd round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

A total of 10 current and former LSU players have been selected in the draft, which began on Thursday and concluded Saturday after 40 rounds.

Ross, a native of Naples, Fla. is a three-year starter for LSU at catcher, having appeared in 168 games for the Tigers during his career. He has produced three doubles, three homers and 29 RBI this season, and he has thrown out 18 base runners attempting to steal.

Cotton, a product of Shreveport, La., has tied the LSU single-season record for saves with 16 this year. He is 4-1 with a 1.29 ERA in 42 innings (35 appearances), and he has recorded three walks and 45 strikeouts.

Rhymes, a native of Monroe, La., is a two-time first-team All-SEC performer, and he was voted the SEC Player of the Year in 2012, when he led the nation in hitting with a .431 average. Rhymes is batting .340 this season with 14 doubles, one triple, four homer s and 45 RBI.

Ibarra, a junior college transfer from La Puente, Calif., started 62 games at third base for the Tigers in 2013 and is batting .321. He was a All-SEC Defensive Team selection.
