Jacobsen Recognized as BASF Professor of Excellence

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU's Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes has selected Dr. Dee Jacobsen for the BASF Professor of Excellence Award. Dr. Jacobsen will be recognized at the LSU-Florida baseball game Friday night in Alex Box Stadium.

“It gives us great pleasure in nominating Dr. Jacobsen as our 2013 BASF Professor of Excellence recipient,” said Kenneth Miles, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.  “She is student-centered and more importantly, an advocate who teaches and prepares our students with the necessary skills for success during and after college. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed scholar.”

Dr. Jacobsen, an assistant professor in the LSU School of Kinesiology, received her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Southeastern Louisiana in 1976, and her master’s degree in physical education from the University of New Orleans in 1984. She earned a PhD in administration and teaching from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2004.

Dr. Jacobsen’s teaching expertise at LSU is in Sport Administration, and she serves as the undergraduate program coordinator for the BS degree. Jacobsen is a member of LAHPERD where she serves as convention manager, and SDAAHPERD where she serves as a council member, chair of Professional Preparation, General Division. Jacobsen also currently works with LSU College of Education J1 International Disney Program.
