Notes on the Tigers
LSU is in a first-place tie with South Carolina in the overall SEC standings, and the Tigers have a four-game lead over Arkansas and Mississippi State in the SEC Western Division race ... LSU posted a series victory at No. 24 Ole Miss last weekend, including a 4-3, 13-inning victory on Friday and a 12-3 triumph on Sunday ... LSU is 13-4 in one-run games this season, including a 10-3 mark in SEC games decided by one run ... the Tigers are 3-1 this season in extra-inning games ... the Tigers launched four home runs in Sunday's win at Ole Miss, marking LSU's first four-homer game since May 20, 2010 versus Mississippi State in Alex Box Stadium ... junior leftfielder Raph Rhymes continues to lead the nation in hitting, batting .500 (85-for-170) on the year with 11 doubles, three homers, 47 RBI and 38 runs ... Rhymes is batting .644 (38-for-59) with runners in scoring position, and he's hitting .512 in SEC games ... Rhymes was 7-for-14 in LSU's four games last week with one RBI and six runs scored ... he hit .455 (5-for-11) in the Ole Miss series with one RBI and four runs ... sophomore second baseman JaCoby Jones led LSU to three wins in four games last week, batting .500 (7-for-14) with one double, one homer, seven RBI, three runs and one stolen base ... Jones paced to the Tigers to an SEC series victory at Ole Miss, hitting .417 (5-for-12) in three games with one double, one homer, seven RBI, two runs and one stolen base ... Jones was 3-for-5 with a double, a three-run homer and a career-best five RBI in Sunday's 12-3 win over the Rebels that clinched LSU's first series victory in Oxford since 2004 ... his two-out, two-RBI double in the second inning Sunday gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead, and his three-run dinger in the sixth, also with two outs, punctuated a five-run LSU outburst .... freshman right-hander Aaron Nola turned in the second-longest SEC outing of his career, defeating No. 24 Ole Miss on Sunday ... Nola limited the Rebels - the SEC's second-best hitting club -- to three runs on seven hits in seven innings with two walks and three strikeouts, improving to 6-2 on the season ... Nola has walked only six batters in 62.1 innings this season while firing 57 strikeouts and limiting opponents to a .246 batting average ... sophomore right-hander Kevin Gausman leads the SEC with 101 strikeouts on the year after he recorded four Ks in 7.2 innings at Ole Miss on Friday ... Gausman is 7-1 this season with a 3.16 ERA, and he is limiting opponents to a .241 batting average ... junior right-hander Nick Goody earned his ninth save of the season in Friday's 13-inning win at Ole Miss, firing a scoreless final inning with no hits and one strikeout ... Goody lowered his ERA to 0.71 in 25.1 innings with three walks and 36 strikeouts ... opponents are hitting just .151 against Goody this season ... freshman first baseman Tyler Moore enjoyed a productive series at Ole Miss, batting .417 (5-for-12) with one double, one homer, two RBI and three runs ... senior shortstop Austin Nola launched a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the Rebels and collected five hits in the series ... senior designated hitter Grant Dozar had both the game-tying and game-winning hits in Game 1 against Ole Miss - Dozar's solo homer in the eighth tied the contest at 3-3, and his RBI single in the top of the13th scored the go-ahead run.
