BATON ROUGE -- LSU earned National Pitching Staff of the Week honors Monday from InsidePitching.com.
The LSU staff led the Tigers to a 4-0 mark last week, including a three-game SEC sweep of third-ranked Arkansas. Over the four games, LSU allowed just nine runs on 21 hits with eight walks and 52 strikeouts.
LSU lowered its cumulative ERA to 3.04, which ranks third in the SEC. LSU leads the league in strikeouts with 263, and opponents are batting just .233 against the Tigers' pitchers.
Freshman right-hander Aaron Nola delivered an outstanding performance Sunday in helping the Tigers complete the sweep of Arkansas. Nola worked 6.1 innings and limited the Razorbacks to two runs on three hits with one walk and a career-high nine strikeouts.
Sophomore right-hander Kevin Gausman posted a career-high 12 strikeouts in Friday's win over Arkansas. He worked 6.2 innings to earn the victory, recording two walks and 12 Ks, increasing his season strikeouts total to 62.
Sophomore right-hander Ryan Eades tied his career best with eight strikeouts in Saturday's win over Arkansas. Eades worked 7.1 innings, limiting the Razorbacks to one run on five hits with one walk and eight Ks
Junior left-hander Chris Cotton appeared in all three Arkansas games in relief, firing a total of 2.2 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
The LSU bullpen was exceptional throughout the series, limiting Arkansas to just one run on five hits in 8.2 innings with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
