BATON ROUGE -- Game 1 of the LSU Baseball Purple-Gold World Series begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Alex Box Stadium. The three-game intrasquad series signals the conclusion of LSU's six-week fall practice session.

Game 2 is set for 4 p.m. Thursday and Game 3 starts at 5 p.m. Friday. All games will be six innings, and they are open to the public with free admission.

"Fall practice has gone very well, and we've learned a lot about our team," said seventh-year LSU head coach Paul Mainieri, who directed the Tigers in 2012 to the SEC title and the No. 7 National Seed in the NCAA Tournament. "It's evident that we have more team speed than last year, and our pitching depth is outstanding. We feel like we can go deep into our staff with confidence."

LSU hitting coach Javi Sanchez will serve as the head coach of the Purple team. Sanchez has managed the winning team in four of the last five Purple-Gold World Series. Sanchez will be assisted in the dugout by undergraduate assistant coach Blake Dean and equipment manager Shay Dubois.

LSU assistant coach Will Davis will work as the head coach of the Gold squad. Davis led the Gold in the fall of 2010 to the Purple-Gold World Series title. Davis will be assisted by equipment managers Matt Fury and Pat Fox.

The Gold team will start sophomore right-hander Ryan Eades on the mound in Game 1 on Tuesday, while the Purple will counter with sophomore right-hander Aaron Nola.

Game 2 will match Gold freshman right-hander Russell Reynolds versus Purple senior left-hander Brent Bonvillain. Gold junior right-hander Kurt McCune will start Game 3 against Purple sophomore left-hander Cody Glenn.

"Our team has shown strength this fall in a lot of areas, including  team speed, defense, hustle and intelligence," Mainieri said. "The Purple-Gold World Series is a great way to end fall practice with competitive, game-like conditions."

Notes for Games

The champion will be determined by the following criteria:
If the first two games are split, the winner of the 3rd game will be declared champion.
If one team wins the first 2 games, the team that is 0-2 can still win the title by winning Game #3 by an amount of runs that is greater than the sum of the run differential of the first two games.

All games will be six innings.
