Former LSU catcher Will Davis enters his eighth year on the Tigers’ coaching staff, and he will continue to work as the third base coach while tutoring the catchers defensively and assisting Andy Cannizaro with the position players.
Davis has been on the LSU staff for three trips to the College World Series (2008,2009,2013), two SEC Championships (2009 & 2012), five SEC tournament titles (2008,2009,2010,2013,2014), and he was an assistant coach on the 2009 National Championship team.
While coaching the Tiger outfielders from 2009-2014 Davis consistently engineered one of the nation’s top defensive units. Davis’ outfielders were routinely featured on ESPN’s Top Plays, and the 2013 LSU outfield committed just one error in 68 games. Outfielders drafted under Davis’ watch include: Jared Mitchell (1st Round), Mikie Mahtook (1st Round), Leon Landry (3rd Round), Raph Rhymes (15th Round), and Johnny Dishon (42nd Round).
An experienced recruiter, Davis has been LSU’s designated recruiter for the summer of 2011, the fall of 2012, and the summer of 2014, helping to bring in the nation’s seventh-ranked class in 2011, fourth-ranked class in 2012, 10th-ranked class in 2013, and most recently, PerfectGame.org’s top-ranked class for 2014. In addition Davis’ high school showcase camp program has helped bring in 30 future Tigers since 2011.
In addition to his on-field duties, Davis also is in charge of the prestigious LSU Baseball camps, works as the head of the Coaches Committee (booster club), and he is the direct liaison to the LSU Baseball alumni.
The Baton Rouge native played at LSU from 2004-2007 and was a letterman on the 2004 College World Series team. He is married to the former Danielle Hall of Bogalusa, who was a member of the LSU Golden Girl squad.
