BATON ROUGE - After earning a pair of top-five finishes in the final team standings during the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships a year ago, the Tigers and Lady Tigers will open the 2013 indoor season ranked among the nation's Top 10 in the preseason power rankings announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Lady Tigers kick off this campaign as the nation's No. 4-ranked squad after capturing the third-place team trophy in each of the last three seasons at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Tigers, who have earned a top-five finish at the NCAA Indoor meet in five-straight seasons, will kick off the 2013 season as the No. 10-ranked team in the USTFCCCA power rankings.

The Arkansas men and Clemson women have each claimed the No. 1 national ranking to open up the year as many teams are set to open the season this weekend. The Razorbacks are followed by No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 5 Oregon, while Clemson is trailed by No. 2 Kansas, No. 3 Oregon and No. 5 Florida in the top five of the USTFCCCA preseason power rankings.

The USTFCCCA preseason power rankings are compiled using seasonal-best performances from 2012 of the top returning athletes to each team in the NCAA Division I ranks.

The Lady Tigers are paced by reigning Bowerman Award winner and NCAA Indoor 200-meter champion Kimberlyn Duncan for her senior season in 2013. The Lady Tigers also boast the defending NCAA Indoor champion 4x400-meter relay team, as well as a pair of returning All-Americans in senior Charlene Lipsey in the 800 meters and junior Jasmin Stowers in the 60-meter hurdles.

The Tigers are led by senior three-time NCAA long jump silver medalist Damar Forbes and fellow senior Caleb Williams as an All-American in the 400-meter dash. The Tigers also won the NCAA Indoor bronze medal in the 4x400-meter relay with their performance at the national meet a season ago.

The LSU Track & Field teams are ready to kick off the 2013 indoor season with a trip to Birmingham this weekend as they compete at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener on Saturday at Fair Park Arena.
