BATON ROUGE – LSU Track & Field head coach Dennis Shaver announced Tuesday that the Tigers and Lady Tigers are set to host their fifth-annual LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet during the fall as the event will be held at the Carl Maddox Field House on Friday, Oct. 24, ahead of LSU’s football game against Ole Miss.

All current and former track and field athletes at LSU are invited to join in the celebration as a social is set for 6:30 p.m. CT with the dinner and banquet to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Now entering its fifth year, the LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet has evolved into a true celebration of the rich history and tradition of the NCAA’s most storied track and field program as the Tigers and Lady Tigers welcome their decorated alumni back to Baton Rouge for the banquet festivities.

The fifth-annual event is no exception as the program celebrates its historic national championship sweeps during the 1989 outdoor season and 2004 indoor season for two of the greatest seasons in program history.

There will be a celebration of the 25th anniversary of LSU’s NCAA Outdoor national championship sweep in 1989 and 10th anniversary of the program’s NCAA Indoor national championship sweep by both the Tigers and Lady Tigers. Both seasons marked the first time in the history of collegiate track and field for one school to sweep national championships both indoors and outdoors.

The banquet will also recognize the current Tigers and Lady Tigers for their outstanding performances during the 2013-14 athletic season, including 2013 cross country, 2014 indoor and 2014 outdoor seasons highlighted by the announcement of the Most Outstanding Female Performer Award and Glenn “Slats” Hardin Award winners.

The LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet debuted in 2010 with the goal of honoring the current members of the program for their achievements in competition, in the classroom and in the community, as well as recognize the alumni who have laid the foundation of success that is enjoyed by the program to this day as the Tigers and Lady Tigers prepare for the 2015 season.

Further information will be forthcoming as details of LSU’s national championship anniversary celebrations are still being finalized at this time.

Alumni and their guests who wish to attend the fifth-annual LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet can RSVP today by submitting this online form. A member of the LSU Track & Field staff will follow up with alumni who submit their RSVP online to confirm their request.
