Track & Field Makes First 2013 Trip to Fayetteville

BATON ROUGE - The LSU Track & Field teams are ready to step up their level of competition this weekend as they make their first trip to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete an NCAA caliber field at this year's Razorback Invitational running Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Friday's action kicks off at 1 p.m. CT with the women's pentathlon followed by the first field events at 4 p.m. and the first events on the track at 6 p.m. Saturday's events are scheduled to start at noon.

With two weeks of the indoor season now in the books, the Tigers and Lady Tigers have each claimed the No. 6 national ranking in the latest Top 25 power ranking released on Tuesday morning by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. This weekend's meet features six men's teams and eight women's teams nationally-ranked in the current USTFCCCA Top 25.

Joining the Lady Tigers are such squads as No. 5 Arkansas, No. 7 Florida, No. 12 Arizona, No. 13 Texas, No. 16 Georgia, No. 17 Baylor, No. 23 Nebraska, Florida State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

The Tigers will compete alongside such nationally-ranked programs as No. 1Arkansas, No. 3 Florida, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Arizona and No. 21 Florida State. Also competing as part of the men's field are the likes of Baylor, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

This marks the first of LSU's four trips to Fayetteville during the 2013 indoor season as the University of Arkansas will also play host to such indoor meets as the Tyson Invitational from Feb. 8-9, the SEC Indoor Championships from Feb. 22-24 and the NCAA Indoor Championships from March 8-9.

After lining up at the Razorback Invitational this weekend, the Tigers and Lady Tigers will make their annual trip to The New Balance Track & Field Center in New York City, better known as The Armory, for one of the nation's premier indoor meets as they compete with a host of nationally-ranked programs at this year's Armory Collegiate Invitational running from Feb. 1-2.
