BATON ROUGE - LSU senior women's cross country runner Laura Carleton has been named the Southeastern Conference Women's Runner of the Week for her first-place finish in Saturday's LSU Invitational after posting a time of 20 minutes, 34.70 seconds.
Carleton, a senior from Lake Charles, La., redshirted for the Lady Tigers last year, but has played a key role in their success thus far this season.
Carleton's first-place finish, along with six other runners placing in the Top 10 at the LSU Invitational, helped the Lady Tiger's capture the team crown with 17 points.
This was Carleton's second consecutive top-10 finish after placing fifth at Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic held the weekend of Sept. 15.
With her time at the LSU Invitational, Carleton currently holds the top 6,000-meter among SEC women so far this season.
Other Lady Tigers with leading SEC times include junior Natoya Goule, who places second with a time of 21:00.80, and senior Dakota Goodman, who places third with a time 21:02.20.
The SEC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor is the first for Carleton in her career at LSU and the first for the Lady Tigers since 2006 when Rachael Graham received the title.
