BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a season filled with record-breaking performances, the LSU gymnastics team set one more record by earning the highest finish in school history with a 197.600 to take third place at the NCAA Super Six Finals Saturday night in BJCC Arena.

The previous best finish was fourth place in the 1988 season, but No. 3 LSU (26-9) improved on that by tallying the 13th straight score of 197 or higher to end the season.

No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Oklahoma tied for the national title with matching 198.175s, the first time in NCAA history two teams tied for the title.

Alabama finished fourth with a 197.550, followed by Georgia in fifth at 197.050 and Nebraska in sixth at 196.500.

“We wanted to win the national title, and there’s no question about that,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “With that said, we put forth a great effort tonight, and I know we can walk out of here with our heads held high. To earn the highest finish in school history is a great accomplishment by this team, and I am proud of the heart, fight and attitude the ladies have put forth all year long.”

LSU opened with a 49.400 on bars, highlighted by a 9.925 from Sarie Morrison in the anchor spot and a 9.90 from Kaleigh Dickson in the leadoff position and a 9.90 from Britney Ranzy. Randii Wyrick provided a 9.875, and Rheagan Courville and Jessie Jordan added 9.80s.

The Tigers moved to beam in the second rotation where they put up a 49.325, the highest beam total at an NCAA Championship meet in LSU history. Courville and Jordan tallied matching 9.90s at the bottom of the lineup to lead the way, followed by a 9.875 from Sydney Ewing and 9.825s from Lloimincia Hall and Dickson.

After sitting out on a bye in the third rotation, LSU earned a 49.550 on floor in the fourth rotation, led by outstanding 9.95 performances from Courville and Hall. Jessica Savona added a 9.90, and Ashleigh Gnat and Ranzy tallied 9.875s to round out the scoring.

LSU wrapped up the meet in the fifth rotation with a 49.325 on vault. Courville and Gnat stuck their vaults to tally 9.90s, and Morrison and Ranzy added 9.85s. Hall and Jordan recorded 9.825s early in the lineup.

The Tigers waited to see how the four teams competing in the final rotation would finish. Florida scored a 49.625 on floor while Oklahoma recorded a 49.550 on vault to finish in a tie for the title.

Alabama counted a fall to score a 48.850 on beam and take fourth place overall, and Georgia tallied a 49.525 on bars to jump Nebraska for fifth place in the final standings.

LSU’s 49.325 on vault, 49.400 on bars, 49.325 on beam and 49.550 on floor all marked the highest scores in each event in a Super Six competition for the Tigers.

While the team portion of the record-breaking season is complete, four Tigers will compete for an individual national title at the NCAA Individual Event Finals at 2 p.m. CT Sunday.

Courville, the reigning NCAA vault champion, will attempt to defend her title in the event, and she will also compete for the bars title.

Gnat will vie for the vault title as well, while Ewing will compete on beam and Savona will compete on floor.

Live video of Event Finals will be available at www.ESPN3.com.
