BATON ROUGE – After receiving a No. 8 national ranking in the early recruiting class rankings released last year by, LSU’s heralded Class of 2014 has climbed one spot to No. 7 in the updated Top 20 recruiting classes nationally released by the online publication following National Signing Day on Wednesday.

LSU Soccer’s six recruits who have signed National Letters of Intent as part of the Class of 2014 also form the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in the Southeastern Conference this year.

It marks the second year in a row in which the Tigers have signed the SEC’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class on the soccer pitch after their five-member Class of 2013 received a No. 14 national ranking and a No. 1 ranking in the SEC by the editorial staff at prior to the start of the 2013 season.

Joining the LSU Soccer program as one of the Top 10 recruiting classes in the country in 2014 are goalkeeper Lily Alfeld (Christchurch, New Zealand), striker Jorian Baucom (Scottsdale, Ariz.), center back Jordane Carvery (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada), midfielder Christyna Pitre (Austin, Texas), midfielder/defender Madeline Ramsey (Rock Hill, S.C.) and defender Alexis Urch (Round Rock, Texas).

While earning a No. 7 national ranking on the recruiting trail in 2014, LSU follows only No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 California and No. 6 Penn State in’s national Top 20 recruiting classes released Friday morning. Rounding out the Top 20 are No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 10 Georgia, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 Boston College, No. 13 Auburn, No. 14 Wake Forest, No. 15 South Carolina, No. 16 Florida State, No. 17 Syracuse, No. 18 Michigan, No. 19 Maryland and No. 20 Clemson.

The SEC enjoyed perhaps its most successful season on the recruiting trail in the Class of 2014 as it features more classes ranked in the Top 15 of the updated rankings than any other conference nationwide.

The race for the SEC Championship will be even more challenging in 2014 after six SEC programs inked Top 15 recruiting classes as part of National Signing Day as the Tigers are joined by the likes of Texas A&M, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn and South Carolina. The Atlantic Coast Conference trails with five Top 15 classes, followed by the Pac 12 Conference with three and the Big Ten with one. Top 20 National Recruiting Rankings (as of Feb. 7, 2014)
