BATON ROUGE – Senior goalkeeper Megan Kinneman has been honored for her heroics in LSU’s 1-0 upset of the 13th-ranked USC Trojans on Sunday afternoon by being named the SEC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week by College Sports Madness as the online publication announced its conference and national award winners Tuesday morning.
Each week, College Sports Madness identifies the players who have made the greatest impact for their teams at the conference and national levels when deciding its weekly awards.
Kinneman inspired the Tigers to arguably the SEC’s most signature win of the 2013 non-conference season with a 1-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Trojans on Sunday afternoon while wrapping up a road trip to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Minnesota Gold Classic. She was named to the Minnesota Gold Classic All-Tournament Team and the Defensive Most Valuable Player for her performance.
Kinneman made a season-high of seven saves against a potent USC attack that had scored 13 goals in its four previous matches on the year while averaging 3.25 goals per game before falling to the Tigers. She pitched a fourth shutout in six matches during her senior season as she is already just two clean sheets shy of matching her single-season career high.
Not only that, but Kinneman even scored the game-winning goal against the USC Trojans by burying a penalty kick in the 65th minute to get the job done on the offensive and defensive ends of the field in a 1-0 victory.
