ATLANTA – LSU senior forward Theresa Plaisance has been chosen as one of 30 midseason candidates for the 2014 Naismith Trophy as announced Wednesday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. She was one of 50 players included on the Naismith Trophy preseason list and remained on the list when it was trimmed down from 50 to 30 players.

For Plaisance, it’s the second midseason award watch list the New Orleans native has been named to. She was only SEC player to be listed among the 2014 Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 list which was announced in mid-January.

The Naismith Trophy is the most prestigious national basketball award and is given annually to the women's college basketball player of the year. This year, the award will be presented in Nashville, Tenn. as part of the NCAA Women's Final Four. Former LSU great Seimone Augustus was a two-time winner of the Naismith Trophy during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Plaisance has racked up a team-leading 14.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. She is one of 18 players in program history to secure 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. In SEC play, Plaisance has raised her scoring average to 16.4 points per game which is fourth on the league leaderboard.

Plaisance has strung together 14 consecutive games in double figures and scored 103 of her 182 points in SEC action during the second half. She poured in a season’s best 23 points at Ole Miss en route to her first career SEC Player of the Week honor on Jan. 27.

After a midweek bye, LSU returns to action on Sunday to face SEC frontrunner and No. 5 South Carolina. Tip time for the program’s Play4Kay game is 2:30 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPN2 along with http://www.WatchESPN.com.

The LSU Sports Radio Network will broadcast the game on Talk 107.3 FM in Baton Rouge. Live audio also will be available for Geaux Zone subscribers at www.LSUsports.net/live. Patrick Wright, the voice of the Lady Tigers, has the radio call.
