BATON ROUGE -- ESPN’s annual Play 4Kay women’s basketball initiative – in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with The V Foundation and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) – will air seven games, including the LSU-South Carolina game on Sunday, Feb. 16 in the Maravich Center.
The network unveiled its lineup on Thursday and the Lady Tigers and Gamecocks will play at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.com. LSU will wear its pink Nike uniforms for breast cancer awareness. The Lady Tigers are 6-0 all-time when wearing those jerseys at home.
LSU-South Carolina is one of two Southeastern Conference Play4Kay matchups. Kentucky and Tennessee will square off at noon CT on Sunday, Feb. 16.
The remainder of the Lady Tigers’ television schedule will be unveiled in the coming weeks. LSU, which participated in a 12-day Spain exhibition tour last month, opens practice under third-year head coach Nikki Caldwell on Sept. 30.
The Lady Tigers return four starters and have been ranked in the top 20 of ESPN.com’s preseason poll. Senior forward Theresa Plaisance is the SEC’s leading returning scorer, while sophomore guard Danielle Ballard was the league leader in steals a year ago. LSU welcomes an exciting group of freshmen that showed their potential in Spain led by Raigyne Moncrief, who led the Lady Tigers in scoring in the four contests.
LSU hosts Tennessee Temple in an exhibition game on Wednesday, Oct. 30 before officially opening the season against Stephen F. Austin in the WNIT and Sue Gunter Classic on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. CT in the Maravich Center.
