BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After guiding LSU to a pair of wins with back-to-back 21-point games and tying a school freshman record for single-game steals, Lady Tiger guard Danielle Ballard has been named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Ballard, a native of Memphis, Tenn., set a career-high with 10 made field goals as part of her game-high 21 points that led LSU to a 90-59 win over Grambling on Dec. 19. She collected seven steals in the victory, tying an LSU freshman record and ranking as the fifth-best steal total in school single-game history.

Ballard tied the freshman record held by Joyce Walker, who tallied seven steals against Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 12, 1981 during her freshman campaign.

Two days later on Dec. 21, Ballard again scored a game-high 21 points in rallying the Lady Tigers from a double-digit deficit against McNeese State. She made a season-best 9-of-10 from the free throw line, including four in the final 0:44 that iced the game.

Ballard became the first LSU freshman with back-to-back 20-plus point games since SEC legend Seimone Augustus did it in the Lady Tigers' first two games of the 2003 Southeastern Conference Tournament.

For the season, Ballard ranks second among all SEC freshmen in scoring with 13.9 points per game. She leads all SEC freshmen in steals with 3.3 per game, which ranks second overall in the conference. Ballard also ranks eighth overall in the league in field goal percentage with a team-best 46.9 percent from the floor.

This marks the second time Ballard has received SEC Freshman of the Week honors. She earned the award earlier this season on Nov. 26. Ballard and the Lady Tigers return to action against Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 28 in Fort Myers, Fla.
