BATON ROUGE - LSU women's basketball head coach Nikki Caldwell, her staff and the Lady Tiger team made a surprise visit to Southside Gardens Retirement Home to spread some holiday cheer on Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers distributed trading cards, signed autographs and even sang Christmas carols with the residents, several of whom watch and listen to the Lady Tigers on the radio. Tuesday's visit was one of several holiday community events the team has planned the remainder of the month.

"I really enjoyed spending time with everyone at the retirement home," said junior forward Theresa Plaisance, the Southeastern Conference's leading scorer. "Everyone was full of energy and fun to be around. They sang Christmas carols with us and gave us advice for the remainder of the season. We enjoy getting out there and visiting with our fans."

The Lady Tigers return to action against East Tennessee State at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Maravich Center. The holiday cheer continues as LSU will hold a food drive prior to the game. All fans are urged to bring canned goods to the game. There will be six barrels set up around the Maravich Center entrances.

All canned good donations will go directly to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Any fan that brings at least one canned good can purchase a special $2 ticket for admission to Thursday's contest at the Maravich Center box office.
