Arkansas Hands Men's Basketball 69-60 Loss

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Reigning SEC Player of the Week, Justin Hamilton, poured in 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, but the LSU men's basketball team lost a 69-60 decision to Arkansas Saturday at Bud Walton Arena.

LSU (11-6, 1-2 SEC) grabbed a 33-32 advantage at the 18:29 mark of the second half after an Andre Stringer three-pointer from Anthony Hickey. The Razorbacks (13-4, 2-1 SEC) responded with nine consecutive points as four different players connected for baskets.

B.J. Young tallied 19 points and four assists off the bench to pace Arkansas. The Razorbacks also received 15 and 14 points from Julysses Nobles and Mardracus Wade, respectively. Nobles and Wade also buried a trio of three-balls apiece.

The Tigers pulled back within four points on two different occasions, the latest at 56-52 with 6:22 remaining, on a Stringer lay-up in transition. On the next possession, Nobles knocked down a jumper followed by a Young three-point play to vault Arkansas back ahead 61-52 with 3:02 left on the clock.    

The Razorbacks went 8-for-13 at the foul line down the stretch to secure the 69-60 win and collected their 13th straight win at Bud Walton Arena to start the 2011-12 season. Arkansas shot 54 percent in the second half.

Hickey turned in a solid all-around impressive effort. He garnered 10 of his 12 points in the first half and added five rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals. The Tigers trailed 30-29 at intermission.

LSU returns home Tuesday versus Auburn. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and ESPNU will carry the action live from the Maravich Center.

The LSU Sports Radio Network also will broadcast the game on 100.7 FM (The Tiger) in the Baton Rouge area. Jim Hawthorne, Kevin Ford and Ricky Blanton will call the action.
