BATON ROUGE -- Former LSU men's basketball head coach Dale Brown will be the guest speaker for the January edition of the monthly "Tipoff Luncheon With Johnny Jones Presented By Hub International."
The luncheon is set for Tuesday at the L'Auberge Resort off Nicholson Dr., south of the LSU campus. The luncheon will be held at the Bon Temps Buffet located on the main floor of the L'Auberge. The all-you-can-eat buffet charge is $13.95 per person.
The luncheon buffet is open to the public at 11:30 a.m. and the program will begin at approximately 12:10 p.m.
Coach Brown took the Tigers to four SEC titles and two NCAA Final Fours during his 25 years as the head basketball coach at LSU (1972-97). He also recruited Coach Jones from DeRidder High to come to LSU, playing on the 1981 NCAA Final Four team. Jones then joined Brown's coaching staff and was part of the LSU staff when LSU went to its second Final Four under Brown in 1986 when it made its run as the 11th seed in the tournament.
The Tipoff Luncheons are held once-a-month at the L'Auberge and will feature Coach Jones and different basketball-related guest each month.
The guest for the February 5 luncheon has already been set as LSU prepares to celebrate the 60th anniversary of LSU's first team to go to the national semifinals in 1953. One of the legends of the game, Bob Pettit, will make a rare public speaking appearance at that luncheon.
To get to the L'Auberge resort from the LSU area, follow LA-30 N./Nicholson Drive. Turn Left onto L'Auberge Crossing Drive and follow the signs to L'Auberge Baton Rouge.
