BATON ROUGE -- LSU senior forward Tasmin Mitchell was given another pre-season accolade on Wednesday when the was rated the No. 4 small forward in college basketball for 2009-10 by Rivals.com.
The listing came from Rivals.com College Basketball Staff Analyst Steve Megargee as he listed his top 25 small forwards in the game for this coming season. Two Big Ten rivals – Ohio State’s Evan Turner and Purdue’s Robbie Hummel topped the list with Tennessee’s Tyler Smith third, just ahead of Mitchell.
Two others from the SEC are listed with Jeffery Taylor of Vanderbilt at No. 13 and Kentucky’s Darius Miller at No. 25.
Mitchell averaged over 16 points a game last year as the Tigers won the 2009 SEC regular season championship and he became just one of nine players in the long history of LSU basketball to start on two SEC Championship teams. Mitchell earlier this week was a unanimous first-team choice on the coaches All-SEC preseason team.
LSU opens its 2009-10 season on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. against ULM at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
