ATHENS, Ga. – Fresh off winning four of the last five games, all in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, the LSU men’s basketball team looks to continue its winning ways Thursday night in a nationally-televised contest here at Stegeman Coliseum against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The game is set for just after 7 p.m. EST (6 p.m. in Baton Rouge) on ESPN2 and the WatchESPN app with Rece Davis and Jimmy Dykes on the call. The game will also be available on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network (affiliates listed below). Jim Hawthorne and Ricky Blanton courtside along with studio host Kevin Ford will have the broadcast which will also be available in the Geaux Zone at LSUsports.net.

The Tigers are 14-6 overall and 5-3 in the Southeastern Conference while the Georgia Bulldogs have dropped three straight to go back to 10-10 and 4-4 overall. LSU is 2-3 at opponent’s courts this season with wins at Texas Tech and South Carolina, while Georgia is 9-2 at home.

“After two solid performances at home last week, we look forward to going back out on the road Thursday to be challenged again,” said LSU men’s basketball head coach Johnny Jones. “We are in a very tough conference and play in very tough venues. We look forward to getting back home on Saturday for a great afternoon to an Auburn team who has continued to improve each game. We get to be a part of a festive weekend with alumni weekend this Saturday. The team is excited; we are excited. I think our guys have done a tremendous job ...”

LSU is coming off home wins over Kentucky and Arkansas last week, while the Bulldogs lost on the road to Kentucky and Auburn with a home loss to Vanderbilt in between.

For their efforts last week, LSU’s Johnny O’Bryant III was named SEC Player of the Week and Jordan Mickey was named SEC Freshman of the Week. Mickey was also named by the United States Basketball Writers Association the national freshman of the week.  O’Bryant III had games of 29 points versus Kentucky and 23 against Arkansas, while Mickey had 22 against Arkansas and 11 combined blocks in the two games.

The last two games LSU has started four forwards with Jarell Martin and Shavon Coleman joining the LSU lineup along with guard Anthony Hickey. Hickey had 12 assists and just one turnover in two games last week to expand his league lead in assist-to-turnover ratio and Martin was in double figures against Arkansas, the first time JOB III, Mickey and Martin had all tallied double digits in the same game this year.

O’Bryant III leads LSU in scoring at 15.8 points per game (up 2.0 points over the last five games), with Mickey at 12.9.

The Bulldogs are led by sophomore guard Charles Man who is averaging 13.5 points per game and 2.9 assists. Guard Kenny Gaines, who returned against Auburn after missing two games with a thigh bruise, averaged 11.8 points per contest. Nemanja Djurisic has been coming off the bench and averages 10.2 points per game.

When asked what his team needs to do to win on the road as they have at home, Jones said:

“Consistency. I think our team has done a tremendous job on the road, and I don’t say that lightly. I think anytime you go to a venue like Ole Miss, a team that’s sitting at 6-3 in the league, and we have the ball on the last possession to have an opportunity to win. I think we played well, but the shot didn’t go. We put ourselves in a similar situation at Alabama to have a chance to be in position to win. Those are two different venues. I think both of those teams played well, and I think we were only a couple of possessions from winning. We understand what it takes. It’s just a matter of getting over that hump and making plays down the stretch. We’ve been in that situation at home as well. I think our team knows that our team is capable. It’s a matter of getting that behind you like at South Carolina, the first road game of the season for us in terms of conference play.”

LSU returns home to face Auburn on Saturday at 3 p.m. on SECTV. Tickets are available on LSUtix.net.
