BATON ROUGE - A group of LSU basketball fans enjoyed outstanding food and a visit with head men's basketball coach Johnny Jones at the first of a series of monthly basketball luncheons here Tuesday at the L'Auberge Resort.
Jones introduced and spoke about his staff and his assistant coaches and looked ahead to the start of practice on Friday.
He also talked about the start of official practice sessions on Friday.
"The season is going to be a difficult task, but we have a talented team that can compete in the SEC," Jones told the audience. "Other teams may have size, but we have quickness that not many teams possess. I'm excited about the leadership that Anthony Hickey and Johnny O'Bryant have shown. They have brought the team together."
Jones also discussed the hard work the players have done in the weight room under new strength and conditioning Coach Ricky Lefebvre.
The first-year LSU coach also mentioned that Johnny O'Bryant III and others have asked Lefebvre to meet with them for other 6 a.m. strength and conditioning sessions in the weight room at a time when they weren't mandatory in an effort to get better for the upcoming season.
LSU will conduct its media day activities on Wednesday with the interview sessions with women's head Coach Nikki Caldwell and Coach Jones broadcast live in the Geaux Zone.
