Notes on the Tigers
LSU fought hard but was handed a pair of road setbacks from veteran laden No. 16 Florida and Tennessee in two of the tougher venues in the SEC. The Tigers were playing without outside hitter Helen Boyle and have lost three straight SEC decisions for the first time since the 2004 season. LSU's defense recorded 22.5 blocks at a 2.64 per set average. In the process, the Tigers also held Florida's high-octane offense to a season-low .177 hitting percentage. Madie Jones 24 kills at a 3.43 per set ratio which allowed her to move past Michele Williams (2008-11) for 16th place on LSU's all-time list during the Tennessee match. Meghan Mannari also continued her climb up LSU's digs list. She racked up 31 digs, 19 of them coming at No. 16 Florida that enabled her to vault past Detra Brown (1983-86) for the No. 9 spot. Marissa Maas added a pair of strong efforts. She belted a season-high seven kills during the Florida match and tacked on seven blocks against Tennessee. The Richmond, Texas, native has started in five of LSU's last six matches and provided 22 kills to go along with 25 blocks. Desiree Elliott moved closer in her pursuit of 1,000 career kills. Her 12 spikes versus Tennessee put Elliott 18 away from becoming the 20th player in program history to accomplish this feat. Khourtni Fears came away with 1.14 kills and 0.86 blocks per set, while Cati Leak notched 1.29 kills and 2.00 digs per set, respectively. LSU wraps up the regular season Wednesday versus Arkansas. First serve is slated for 8 p.m., and the match will be televised by ESPNU. Following the match, the Tigers will honor their senior class of Sam Delahoussaye, Victoria Jacobsen, Madie Jones and Meghan Mannari for their contributions to the program.
