Notes on the Tigers
LSU was unable to hold a 2-1 lead and dropped a five-set decision to Georgia last weekend during the SEC opener for both teams. The Tigers held a .162 to .155 edge in hitting percentage, but the Bulldogs registered 69 kills versus LSU’s 60. LSU had its run of nine straight wins in SEC home openers since 2004 come to a close. Khourtni Fears pounded home a career-best 15 kills on a .387 hitting clip and has reached double figure kills in two of her last three outings. Malorie Pardo collected her fifth consecutive double-double, 48 assists and a career-high 23 digs. Helen Boyle cranked 15 kills and added 17 digs in her return to the starting lineup, while Briana Holman picked up 14 kills to go along with six blocks. UGA’s defense limited Holman to a .153 hitting ratio, her lowest output since the team’s season-opener against Texas-San Antonio on Aug. 30. She extended her streak to 10 straight matches with double digit kills. On the back row, Laura Whalen came away with a career-best 18 digs whereas Haley Smith reeled in 14 scoops. For Smith, it was her eighth straight match with 10-plus digs. LSU will step away from SEC action Saturday to meet defending national champion and No. 4 Texas. First serve is on-tap for 1 p.m. from the Maravich Center, and the match will be televised by Longhorn Network.
