BATON ROUGE – The nine-month renovation of LSU’s game day locker room in Tiger Stadium was revealed to football team on Friday, the first time that the squad has seen the area since last year’s season-finale against Arkansas.
Since that game last year against Arkansas, LSU’s game day locker room was completely gutted with the renovation totaling over 8,000-square feet. The renovation included the moving of walls, the raising of the ceiling and a total transformation of an area that has been LSU’s game day Tiger Stadium locker room for the decades.
The Tigers will use the locker room for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 6 when 13th-ranked LSU opens its home schedule against Sam Houston State.
LSU coach Les Miles took part in Friday’s locker room reveal and addressed the team after each player had a chance to walk through the new facility.
“This is a special place that has been home to many great LSU players and many great LSU teams,” Miles said to the team. “You are the first group that gets to represent our program in this locker room. There’s a responsibility that goes with that. It requires great commitment, great effort and an understanding of what it means to wear the LSU uniform.”
The facility, which also features updates to both the head coach and assistant coach dressing areas, consists of 126 lockers, an automated state-of-the-art sound system, along with numerous HD televisions, illustrative team graphics and a sophisticated lighting system.
Some of the other highlights of the renovation include an area dedicated to LSU’s first round NFL Draft picks, a wall listing every Tiger that has been active for an NFL game, plus a list of LSU’s all-time list of graduates.
“This place is beautiful,” Miles said. “We have to thank a great school for providing another super facility for our program. They did a wonderful job of highlighting the traditions and some of the great moments in LSU history with the graphics. Our players will enjoy calling this home on Saturday’s during the fall.”
