BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU had 17 student-athletes, representing six intercollegiate sports, receive degrees during the university’s Summer Commencement ceremony held on Friday morning at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.

Representing the sports of men’s basketball, football, gymnastics, men’s and women’s swimming and diving and women’s track and field, LSU had a combined total of 105 student-athletes graduate during the 2013-14 year, matching last year’s combined total.

“We, in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes, are extremely proud of our graduates,” LSU Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Executive Director of the CCACSA said. “The 284th Commencement Exercise is a major milestone within their personal, academic and professional growth and development.”

Leading the pack with six graduates was the Tigers football team, led by two returning players in Elliott Porter and Justin Maclin. Porter was an integral part of former LSU running back Jeremy Hill’s 1,400-yard rushing season and team record 37 touchdowns on the ground at center, while Maclin will bring depth to the defense with the ability to play both at the end and linebacker positions.

Two former members of the football team will also be receiving their degrees in Karnell Hatcher and Richard Murphy, continuing the success of the CCACSA “Project Graduation” initiative, which allows former Tigers of all sports the opportunity to finish the requirements to attain their degree, regardless of when that student-athlete last stepped foot on campus. Since the program began in 2010, over 35 former student-athletes have gone on to earn their degrees.

A quartet of All-Americans highlights the women’s track and field graduates, paced by seven-time All-American and five-time SEC Champion Jasmin Stowers. The silver medalist at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships is joined by three-time All-American Lynnika Pitts and All-American and All-SEC selections in Keri Emanuel and Toshika Sylvester.

The record holder in three different events in the pool and two-time honorable mention All-American in Frank Greeff highlights three from the men’s swimming and diving team that received their degrees as well, as the South Africa native was a two-time selection on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was on the SEC All-Freshman team in 2012. Also joining Greeff was Timmy Dasinger, who was twice named to the SEC Community Service Team and Ricardo Alvarado Jimenez, a three-year letterwinner.

Two pieces of the LSU men’s basketball team also walked across the stage on Friday, as Shavon Coleman and Andre Stringer each earned their degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies and Sports Administration, respectively. Coleman started 23 games in his senior season, hitting 36 percent of his shots from behind the 3-point line while averaging 25.2 minutes per game. Stringer started 14 games, but led the team with 11.8 points per game, and finished his career second in program history in three’s made with 242 and ninth all-time in assists with 315.

Rounding out the group with a graduate each is Sarie Morrison of the gymnastics team and Rainey White of the women’s swimming and diving team. Morrison, a decorated All-American, ended her career as LSU’s all-time leader in uneven bars titles with 28, while White twice qualified for the NCAA Championships, while earning multiple medals at the SEC Championships.
