Player Quotes

JUNIOR DEFENSIVE TACKLE ANTHONY JOHNSON

On LSU defensive tackles in the upcoming game against TCU …
“We like to attack the line of scrimmage, so it all depends how the game goes Saturday. If the coach sees something that we’re getting too far up the field or he needs us to chill back a little bit more and let the defensive ends keep them contained, we’ll do that. I’m going to go out there and try to be the best team player I can be. When you look at the great defensive tackles who have played here, you have Glenn Dorsey, Kyle Williams and guys like that. They were team guys first, and that’s why they have such great accolades.”

On junior defensive end Jordan Allen
Jordan Allen is the guy who had a knee injury last year who was coming along well before the knee injury. He was supposed to play a lot last year in that rotation. He took it to heart and came back and became a better technician. He learned his technique and learned his plays, and Jordan Allen is going to have a big season if he wants it.”

SENIOR RUNNING BACK ALFRED BLUE

On the inside run game against TCU …
“I think we just have to run physical and get those tough yards. Once they stack that box, you have to get those tough three or four yards. Eventually, they’re going to back off. Once they start throwing the ball down the field, they have to back off. They have to play back, and once they do that, who knows. We have a scout team defense that assimilates a lot of what TCU does, so we’re seeing a lot of that right now. The plays we’re going to run, we’re running against TCU defense.”

On the season opener …
“Words can’t explain how excited I am about playing this first game and getting back out there after a year and after a knee injury. It feels great. After getting hurt last year and after Jeremy (Hill) having a great year, I knew I would have to come in and rehab really well, come out and practice and show the coaches that I’m still that guy that started off that season last year. It feels great to be back in position to start again and just be out there ready for that first game.”

JUNIOR WIDE RECEIVER JARVIS LANDRY

On LSU uniforms …
“Tradition is one of those things that is going to be everlasting, and I embrace wearing those white jerseys every game besides the non-conference games where we get to wear purple. It’s not about the different uniforms; it’s about the people that are in them and the hearts behind it.”

On quarterback Zach Mettenberger
“He’s funny. Zach is Zach. He’s one of those guys that you want to be around on the field but also off the field. He’s funny; he’s laid back. We have a lot of things in common. The quarterback is usually the life of the team. He’s the life of everything, and that’s just how Zach is.”
