BATON ROUGE – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes honored six LSU student-athletes as part of their academic achievements and community service for September.

Each month, five student-athletes are recognized for their academic improvement, dedication and proven ability. In addition, one student-athlete is chosen through LSU's Student-Athlete Affairs program for their volunteerism and commitment to the community.

September’s student-athletes of the month are Alex Cheramie [Football], Seth Fruge [Football], Parker Glass [Swimming & Diving], Sean McMullen [Baseball] and Malorie Pardo [Volleyball]. Kaleigh Dickson [Gymnastics] was selected as the Shaquille O'Neal Life Skills Program Student-Athlete of the Month.

Cheramie is majoring in engineering, and Fruge is a nutritional sciences major. Glass and Pardo are education majors, and McMullen is majoring in kinesiology and Dixon is pursuing a graduate degree in mass communication.

Dickson, a senior all-around gymnast from Oldsmar, Fla., competed in the lineup of every event during her junior season, securing career highs in vault, bars, beam and the all-around. Dickson is a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient, and she notched 2010 NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors. Dickson earned an undergraduate degree in Mass Communication in the spring of 2013, and she recently joined the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In the community, she has visited the patients of Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, and Dickson recently helped students move into their dorms during campus move-in day.

A freshman offensive lineman from Cypress, Texas, Cheramie earned Academic All-State Honorable Mention honors in his senior year at Cypress Ranch High School.

Fruge, a senior linebacker from Welsh, La., worked his way from being a walk-on to a starter for the special teams unit. He competed in all 13 games during his junior season on kickoff coverage and as a holder on field goal attempts. Fruge is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

A senior backstroke and freestyle swimmer from Mobile, Ala., Glass competed in two dual meets and a quad meet in the middle distance and distance events during her junior season. Against Vanderbilt, she swam the 200 free in a time of 1:56.73 and the 500 free in a time of 5:12.40, and she has maintained three consecutive SEC Academic Honor Roll honors. Glass has taken part in community service projects like Geaux BIG, LSU’s largest community service day, as well as LSU’s Spring Greening Day.

McMullen, a senior outfielder from Metairie, La., scored two runs and had two hits against North Carolina in the season-ending game at the College World Series. The designated hitter notched an RBI from a sacrifice fly in LSU’s Southeastern Conference Tournament title-winning game, and McMullen earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. His accomplishments on the field did not cause his academics to falter, as McMullen landed a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

A junior setter from League City, Texas, Pardo has handed out 13.50 assists per set to rank second on the SEC leaderboard. She also secured Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team honors during the opening weekend of the 2013 season as LSU defeated San Diego State in five sets, a 2012 NCAA Tournament participant. Over her career, Pardo has notched All-SEC Freshman Team, All-Louisiana First Team and was a three-time SEC Freshman of the Week in 2011. She took part in Camp Tiger during summer break, a program hosted by the LSU School of Medicine for local children with special needs.

For putting forth extra effort in the classroom and community in addition to their rigorous academic and competition schedules, these six student-athletes will have their pictures displayed on the wall in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
