BATON ROUGE - LSU safety Eric Reid and linebacker Kevin Minter were both named second team All-America by the Associated Press, the organization announced on Tuesday.

LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery was recognized as a third team selection by the Associated Press.

Minter, a junior from Suwanee, Ga., led the Tigers and ranked third in the SEC in total tackles with 111. Minter also led the Tigers with 13.5 tackles for loss. Minter, who was a finalist for the Butkus Awards as the nation's top linebacker, was twice named national defensive player of the week for his play in wins over Florida and Texas A&M.

Against Florida, Minter set a school record with 17 solo tackles and he finished the contest with 20 total tackles, the most by an LSU player since the 1988 season. Against Texas A&M, Minter helped LSU hold Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel to a season-low 27 rushing yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in the 24-19 Tiger victory.

Reid, a junior from Geismar, La., finished third on the LSU defense with tackles with 81 as he helped the Tigers rank No. 8 in the nation in total defense. The Tigers were also No. 2 in the SEC and No. 10 in the nation in interceptions.

Montgomery, also a junior, was LSU's most dominant defensive lineman with 32 tackles to go along with 7.0 sacks and 12.0 tackles for loss. Montgomery, who was a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation's top defensive end, earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his play in the win over Auburn. He was twice named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week in wins over Washington and South Carolina.
