BATON ROUGE - LSU cornerback Ron Brooks and offensive guard Will Blackwell have been named Southeastern Conference Players of the Week for their play in the Tigers' 52-3 win over Ole Miss on Saturday, the league office announced on Monday.
Brooks earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors along with Kentucky linebacker Danny Trevathan, while Blackwell was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Brooks, a senior from Irving, Texas, had perhaps his best all-around game as a Tiger with four tackles, one sack for an 11-yard loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception return for a TD. Brooks returned an interception 46 yards on the third play of the game to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. On Ole Miss' third series of the game, Brooks sacked the quarterback, forcing and recovering a fumble. LSU scored two plays later for a 21-0 advantage.
Blackwell, a senior from West Monroe, led LSU with nine knockdowns as the Tigers rolled up a season-best 353 rushing yards and four TDs. LSU didn't allow a sack against Ole Miss as the Tigers racked up 458 total yards in scoring a season-high 52 points.
