One of only two collegiate student-athletes to win both a BCS football title and a College World Series crown -- the other is former LSU wide receiver/outfielder Jared Mitchell ... Jones and Mitchell played on LSU’s 2007 national championship football team and the Tigers’ 2009 NCAA title baseball squad ... SOPHOMORE SEASON (2009)
Started eight games (3 in LF, 3 in RF, 2 at DH) for the Tigers between Feb. 20-March 8 before leaving the squad for six weeks to participate in spring football practice ... returned to the baseball team in late April and made significant contributions as a relief pitcher ... made nine appearances, posting no decisions and a 2.70 ERA in 6.2 innings with three walks and seven strikeouts ... brilliant outing in Game 3 of the CWS Finals versus Texas (June 24), firing 1.2 scoreless innings while allowing no hits and recording no walks and two strikeouts ... also fired a scoreless inning in Game 1 of the CWS Finals versus Texas (June 22), allowing no hits with one strikeout ... made first career collegiate appearance on April 26 versus Auburn; recorded two strikeouts with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to help LSU post a 7-6 win over the Plainsmen ...fired a scoreless seventh inning at Arkansas (May 3) to preserve a one-run lead in an eventual 4-3 LSU win ... at the plate, batted .343 (12-for-35) on the year with two doubles, one homer, six RBI and eight runs ... first career collegiate homer – a solo shot – came on March 1 versus Central Florida.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2008)
Played in five games (three starts), batting .154 (2-for-13) with one double and two runs ... started one game each in center field, right field and DH ... doubled and scored a run in LSU victory over Michigan State (March 5).
A tremendous two-sport athlete in high school ... began his high school career at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, but was forced to evacuate to Baton Rouge in the fall 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina ... played his senior season at Southern Lab High School in Baton Rouge ... featured a 91 mph fastball as a pitcher at Southern Lab and batted over .500 during his senior season as an outfielder ... earned all-state and all-district honors in both football and baseball ... led Southern Lab to the Class 1A football semifinals in 2006, recording 138 tackles and 12 interceptions at safety.
