BATON ROUGE -- No. 23 LSU men’s tennis team (1-0) travels to Nashville, Tenn., to compete against No. 19 Wake Forest (4-0) during the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
LSU will also share the site with No. 20 Texas and No. 15 Vanderbilt. Fifteen sites around the country each host four teams, and the Nashville site is the only one with all four teams in competition ranked in the Top 25.
“It’s a real big test for us,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “I think a couple of teams in particular are better than their ranking. It’s a very tough tournament with some very good teams.”
LSU’s doubles teams of sophomore Tam Trinh and freshman Eric Perez and junior Chris Simpson and sophomore Boris Arias are still ranked at No. 46 and No. 60, respectively. Simpson also remains at No. 72 in singles.
For Wake Forest, No. 20 Romain Bogaerts, No. 59 Adam Lee and No. 93 Anthony Delcore are ranked in singles. Wake Forest's doubles team of Lee and Pedro Dumont are ranked at No. 30.
The winner of the Wake Forest/LSU match will face the winner of the Vanderbilt/Texas match on Sunday for a spot in the National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 14-17 in Houston. Teams that lose opening day matches will play a consolation match Sunday.
“We’re going into it trying to get the most out of it and hopefully that means a win,” Brown said. “But, we want to soak up everything that the weekend has to offer and use it.”
