Venus Reaches Round of 16 at Australian Open

BATON ROUGE -- Former LSU All-American and No. 16 seed Michael Venus and partner Yuki Bhambri advanced to the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-4, 6-4, upset win over No. 10 seed Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau on Thursday.

With the victory, Venus is the first Tiger to reach the round of 16 in a grand slam since Ken Skupski at the 2012 U.S. Open in doubles competition.

Both Rojer and Tecau are listed in the top 25 of ATP World Tour doubles rankings – landing at 16 and 23, respectively. Venus and Bhambri were the first to advance to the third round of doubles competition. The duo plays again at a time to be determined. Match ups can be found online here.
