BATON ROUGE – The LSU men’s tennis team (8-7, 2-4 SEC) has moved up to No. 33 in the latest ITA rankings, and sophomore Chris Simpson has moved up to No. 82 in the singles rankings, marking the first time this dual-match season the Tigers have had a ranked singles player. Simpson is also No. 43 in the doubles rankings paired with Stefan Szacinski.
The Tigers are coming off a big weekend after taking down then-No. 7 Ole Miss (12-5, 5-3 SEC) in a dramatic 4-3 victory in Baton Rouge Friday night, and followed that performance up with a 7-0 sweep over Nicholls State at the Dub on Sunday afternoon.
The University of Virginia (13-0) remains at the top of the rankings as they have held the No. 1 ranking for the entirety of the 2013 dual-match season.
The SEC is very well represented in the rankings yet again. There are nine SEC teams in the Top 25, including No. 3 Georgia (14-4, 6-1 SEC), No. 5 Tennessee (17-6, 4-3 SEC), No. 8 Kentucky (16-6, 4-3 SEC), No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 12 Texas A&M (13-8, 4-2 SEC), No. 13 Mississippi State (13-6, 3-4 SEC), No. 14 Vanderbilt (13-6, 4-3 SEC), No. 20 Florida (9-7, 3-3 SEC), and No. 25 South Carolina (13-7, 3-3 SEC).
Other SEC teams outside the Top 25 include No. 31 Alabama (12-7, 3-4 SEC), No. 32 Auburn (11-6, 3-4 SEC), and No. 53 Arkansas (12-10, 0-7 SEC).
The Tigers are on the road for their next two matches starting with a match on Friday, March 29 in Gainesville, Fla., against No. 20 Florida, and then in Columbia, S.C., on Sunday, March 31 against No. 25 South Carolina.
