AUBURN, Ala. - LSU men's tennis senior Roger Anderson started quickly but could not finish as he fell in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional consolation singles final Sunday at Auburn's Yarbrough Tennis Center.

Aided by a strong serve, Anderson took the first set, 6-3, against Ole Miss' Johan Backstrom, but he could not maintain the momentum. Backstrom responded by winning the second set, 6-3, and the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-5.

Anderson wrapped up a strong showing at the regional, finishing with a 4-2 singles record and 2-1 doubles mark.

"It was probably Roger's best tournament as a college player," LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. "He put some things together that were good to see, and he served extremely well and hit big forehands. He has steadily improved during his career, and we hope he continues with that trend going into next weekend."

LSU completed play at the regional, and the Tigers will hit the practice courts Monday in preparation for the final fall tournament. LSU will compete at the Texas A&M Invitational Friday through Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

"We are ready to get the guys back on the practice court, make some adjustments in our game and hopefully show continued improvement like we have seen so far," Brown said.
