Men's Tennis Advances to SEC Quarterfinal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Tam Trinh clinched a 4-2 victory for the LSU men’s tennis team with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court six to help the Tigers defeat No. 17 Mississippi State and advance to Friday's quarterfinals in the SEC tournament.
 
Sophomore Boris Arias and Andrew Korinek opened up doubles play with a dominant 8-0 victory on court three over the Bulldogs' Zach White and Rishab Agarwal. LSU took the doubles point after freshman Justin Butsch and junior Chris Simpson secured an 8-5 victory on court two Florian Lakat and Tassilo Schmid.
 
In singles, LSU and Mississippi State split first sets. Korinek dominated Agarwal, 6-1, 6-1 on court four to give LSU a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Harrison Kennedy quickly defeated Schmid 6-2, 6-0 to extend the Tigers' lead to 3-0.
 
Butsch fell 1-6, 4-6 to Jordan Angust and the Tigers lead was cut to two at 3-1. Simpson fell 2-6, 3-6 to Lakat on court one, and LSU led 4-2 with Trinh leading 5-4 in the second set after winning the first. Trinh clinched the match for this Tigers, which is his second clinch of the season.
 
The Tigers will head to the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament and take on the No. 4 seeded Florida Gators on Friday at 6 p.m.
