COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The LSU men's tennis team got off to a fast start by winning four of six doubles matches on the first day of competition Friday at the Conference Challenge hosted by Texas A&M at Mitchell Tennis Center and Smith Tennis Complex.

LSU's three doubles pairs all claimed first-round victories to get the Tigers rolling early.

Chris Simpson and Stefan Szacinski finished a perfect 2-0 on the day, knocking off Texas A&M's Shane Vinsant and Harrison Adams, 8-4, in the first round before defeating SMU's Arturs Kazijevs and Mischa Nowicki, 8-6, in the second round.

"Today was a good day of doubles, especially at the top spot with Simpson and Szacinski picking up two high-level wins. It is good for their confidence," LSU head coach Jeff Brown said.

Tam Trinh and Roger Anderson combined to beat Oklahoma's John Harry Warden and Larry Formentera, 8-3, in the first round, and Boris Arias and Harrison Kennedy earned a hard-fought victory, 9-7, against Illinois' Jared Hiltzik and Bruno Abdelnour in their first-round match.

Trinh and Anderson dropped their second-round match, 8-5, to Illinois' Alex Jesse and Hiltzik, and Arias and Kennedy fell, 8-6, to Texas A&M's Alberto Bautista and Jordan Szabo in the second round.

"Tam and Roger and Boris and Harrison both got wins in the morning, and they got a lot accomplished today," Brown said. "I saw a lot of improvement, and I am looking to see that momentum carry over tomorrow into singles for all the guys."

The first round of singles play was scheduled to begin Friday, but rain postponed the start of singles until Saturday. First serve is set for 10 a.m., and matchups will be determined Saturday morning.
