Men's Golf in Ninth at Stanford Regional

Stanford, Calif. – The LSU men’s golf team shot an opening round 7-over par 287 on Monday during the opening round of the NCAA Stanford Regional at the Stanford Golf Course. The 287 has the Tigers in ninth place after 18 holes of play.

Philip Barbaree carded a 2-under 68 on the par 70 course out in California. The junior from Shreveport made four birdies in a six-hole stretch on numbers nine through 14 to push his round 3-under par. A bogey on the par 5 16th dropped his round back to 2-under and he finished the round with a couple of pars. Barbaree is tied for ninth after the initial round thanks to his superb scoring average on par 4s (3.80 avg.). He played the 10 par 4s to the tune of 2-under par today which is for the best in the field.

Luis Gagne shot a 1-over par 71 to finish the first day in a tie for 25th. He opened with 15 pars, the second most on day one in the field, and he added in a birdie and two pars. Michael Sanders and Nathan Jeansonne shot matching 4-over par 74s on the day to be in a tie for 52nd. Trey Winstead (T70th) checked in with a 7-over par 77.

The regional host, Stanford, has the clubhouse lead with a 6-under 274. LSU remains five strokes out of the coveted top-five position with South Florida and Ole Miss in a two-way tie for fifth at 2-over 282. Day two of the Stanford Regional will begin on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. CT for the Tigers as they will play with Arizona State and Virginia off the first tee.
